Upton Hall FCJ honored by Prince of Wales

The Upton Hall school for girls in Merseyside, England, has received the Prince of Wales’ Prince’s Teaching Institute Mark, a recognition of inspirational ideas in the teaching of English, history, and science. The school earned the award for its curriculum projects, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Upton’s own Celebrating Shakespeare Festival.

Documentary on Shakespeare performance forthcoming

Actors Dan Poole and Giles Terera have been making a documentary about performing Shakespeare and have filmed interviews with various actors and directors who have worked with the Bard’s plays. The film focuses on teaching Shakespeare in schools and helping actors.

Codman students prepare for Shakespeare competition

Tenth grade students at the Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester, Massachusetts, are currently practicing for the ESU National Shakespeare Competition.  According to the school website, students work closely with The Huntington Theatre Company as part of their curriculum.

London’s youth perform Macbeth at the Globe

Fourteen young actors from Lambeth staged Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Globe on Friday, December 4. The production was the culminating project for students from Lambeth Academy and Lilian Baylis Technology School. Participants formed the Globe Lambeth Actors’ Youth Theatre Company.

Theatre professors suggest Shakespeare festival for Idaho

Will Shephard, a performing arts professor at California State University in Monterey Bay, and Terry Converse, a theatre professor at Washington State University, recently travelled to Sandpoint, Idaho, to discuss with city officials the possibility of a Shakespeare festival for the area.

St Catherine’s College student wins Australia’s Bell Shakespeare scholarship

The Singleton Argus features a story on actor and student Andrew Johnston, who is one of three recipients of Bell Shakespeare’s Regional Performance Scholarship.  Out of 148 auditioners in Australia, Johnston won with his monologue performance from Hamlet.
