Stage and screen star F. Murray Abraham will be a guest speaker this Sunday, August 10 at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
Stratford company member Geraint Wyn Davies will be interviewing Mr. Abraham in a discussion from the actors’ perspective. They will also take questions from the audience.
”It’s very exciting to welcome F. Murray Abraham, one of our great stage and screen actors, to the Festival,” says artistic director Des McAnuff. “It will be fascinating to hear this extraordinary performer’s take on the actor-director relationship.”
Mr. Abraham played the role of Antonio Salieri in the film Amadeus, for which he won an Academy Award. In addition to a successful film career, he has also enjoyed a busy stage career playing Pozzo in Mike Nichols’ production of Waiting for Godot, Malvolio in Twelfth Night for the New York Shakespeare Festival and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice for the New York-based theatre company Theatre For A New Audience. He is currently preparing The Old Man and the Sea for Robert Halmi and Robert Halmi Jr.
Abraham’s speaking engagement is part of the International Master Directors’ Summit. The summit brings a group of distinguished directors from around the world to conduct master-classes with 10 Canadian directors. The goal of the summit is to create a forum for an international exchange of directing ideas and methodologies.
This free event is open to the public, and takes place on Sunday, August 10 at 8 p.m. at the Tom Patterson Theatre.
