Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company have announced that they will co-produce a 2009 national U.S. tour of “Henry V.” This will be the first time the two theatre companies have co-produced and toured a play. Margot Harley, The Acting Company producing artistic director, says, “The cast of 12 young actors will include Acting Company alumni as well as graduates of Guthrie’s BFA program and Guthrie Experience students. I am so pleased to be collaborating with the Guthrie. “
“Henry V” will be directed by Davis McCallum who has previously directed “The Tempest,” “Jane Eyre,” and “The Turn of the Screw” for The Acting Company. “Henry V” will be performed in repertory with “The Spy,” adapted from the James Fenimore Cooper novel by Jeffrey Hatcher.
The national tour of “Henry V” will begin January 10, 2009 at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. It will then travel to 34 cities across the United States including New York City, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Acting Company was founded in 1972 by John Houseman and Margot Harley with Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone and others members of the first graduating class of Julliard’s Drama Division. The Guthrie was founded in 1963 by Sir Tyrone Guthrie, who also started the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada.
