Stratford Shakespeare Festival Receives $2.9 Million from Canadian Government

The Canadian government recently announced $2.9 million in funding for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.

“Of the funding provided by the Government of Canada, $1.5 million will help finance the creation of the Brunswick Centre. The Centre will house a number of Festival departments under one roof, including Festival archives and enhanced warehouse space. Another $1 million, which is equivalent to revenues that were collected during the private sector fundraising campaign organized by the Stratford Festival, will be added to the holdings of the Festival’s Endowment Foundation. Finally, $450,000 over the next three years will go the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre Training at the Stratford Festival of Canada, the only program in Canada devoted to training classical theatre artists.” Read the complete press release

“The Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre will receive $450,000 over the next three years to support its program that offers theatre artists 20 weeks of training and development in the methods and skills required for the interpretation of classical texts. The Stratford Festival hires all of the program’s graduates for the following season; this year, for the first time, the Festival will showcase the work of the graduates in a production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, which runs during the Festival.” Read the full press release
